Yusuf (2), pictured in Turkey, only knows a life of displacement.
In Syria,Yusuf ‘s mother Maryam worked from home making clothes for a living. When she was pregnant with Yusuf, her husband was killed in a bombing. Despite being pregnant, Maryam fled for Turkey with her son Khaled (12), daughter Aia (4), her brother Nayef and his children.
Now the family lives in an old barrack behind the farm where they harvest tomatoes. When asked what he’d like to do, Khaled said, “I want to go to school, I have never been. I just want to be a normal child.” Maryam dreams of opening a small shop to sew and sell Syrian clothes.
