Shireen stands with her children outside their tent in Iraq. They are Yazidi, and were forced to flee their home in 2014 when Daesh took over their village. The family has been living in a refugee camp near the border with Syria ever since.
Shireen’s husband was killed when Daesh first attacked in 2013. Though they used to live in a comfortable house in a peaceful neighborhood where all of the children attended school, Shireen must now rely on asking others for help while stuck in a cloth tent. Three of her children attend school while the other four remain without adequate resources.
Shireen mostly wants to send her other four children to school, but is focused on day-to-day basic needs, including food, clothing and adequate shelter.
