Shaymaa (4) is Syrian and her sister Sham (1) was born a refugee in Lebanon. In early 2014, after a routine trip to the store for food and diapers, the girls’ father Ghassan was arrested and continuously beaten until their uncle was able to pay enough to free him. Immediately following this incident the family fled the country.
Now in Bekaa Valley, Lebanon, Ghassan works on a daily basis picking up any labor jobs he can find to sustain.
Both Shaymaa and Sham have cerebral palsy. Sham also faces epileptic convulsions and psychomotor impairment and Shaymaa also suffers from epilepsy.
When asked about their top needs, Ghassan and his wife Fadia named diapers, medicine, a stroller and help with doctor bills.
