Pictured above, two of Mu’s three children.
Mu was a professional weightlifter in Iraq and worked as a personal trainer with the U.S. military in Baghdad. One day he was driving with his 18 year old sister when militants forced his car off the road. Mu’s sister was killed in front of him in the confrontation that followed, and he was kidnapped. For three weeks he was tortured, and when he was finally released, he knew he needed to flee his country.
His contacts in the U.S. military helped him flee with his family to Jordan, and after multiple surgeries to repair his abused body, he decided to continue on to the U.S. Now settled in Denver, Colorado, Mu is finally at peace. Due to his disabilities, he cannot work as a weightlifter and trainer, but would like to buy an industrial sewing machine to begin a small business to support his family and build their future.
