Mido’s family fled from Eastern Syria where they endured daily horrors. His mother recounts, “A simple trip to the dentist or to the store became traumatizing to me and my children. We were living in constant fear.” To protect her sons, his mother decided to escape. On the road, they were abandoned by the smuggler and remained in a no man’s land for three days, attempting to cross the border several times but getting turned back by security vehicles or cross-fire. They finally made it to Turkey, although their journey is not yet complete. Their goal is to reach their father in Germany, where he has obtained a residence permit. They haven’t seen him for three years and he has never met his youngest son Mido. Their only request is to raise enough money ($2000) to pay for passports and flights to their new home.
My heart goes out to the poor people of the world who, having experienced trauma most of us can’t comprehend and due to no fault of their own, find themselves as refugees in foreign lands.
I would like to issue a challenge to my friends, acquaintances and others who feel they could help. This family needs to be reunited. The goal of $1600 should go a long way in allowing that to happen. What a Christmas gift this can be.
I will put up $1 for every $2 that are donated to help this family get back together. If my friends and their friends can come up with $1100, My wife and I will personally put up $550. Let’s get this done for the holidays.
Please pass this on to your friends lists. All of the money with exception of a credit card processing fee is given to the family.
This is a legitimate charity- feel free to check it out. Thank you for helping us bring this family some holiday cheer!!
At least four quarterly emails will be sent to all contributors with status and progress reports related to activity on the campaign. This may include information about the successful transfer of funds to a hospital, a photo of the recipient after a successful surgery, etc.
Contributors will be provided with a local address to send food, clothes, school supplies and letters of support directly to the family’s door. This is a great way to build one-to-one relationships and potentially provide more needed support down the road. Plus, everything included in the $5 reward.
Attend a live video chat session with the host and refugee. Introduce yourself and time-permitting, spark up a conversation along with others involved in the campaign. A translator will be provided for English when needed. Plus, everything included in the $5 and $15 rewards.
