Marwa has not seen her husband Raje since 2015. They both worked as teachers in Deir ez-Zur, Syria until an extremist group took control of the area. The group requested Raje begin teaching their guidelines, which were based on violence and killing, to the children. He refused and his only option was to flee, leaving Marwa and their son behind. Later under similar circumstances, Marwa was also forced to flee with her son to Greece.
They first tried to cross the border to Turkey failing three times before being successful. From Turkey Marwa and her young son continued on to Greece via boat. Now in Athens, Marwa has struggled to find an adequate living situation for her son. They have moved countless times due to roommates leaving or rent being too high. She seeks assistance with basic needs such as clean water, food, healthcare and education for her son. Marwa also hopes to one day be reunited with her husband.
