Israa (4) is pictured here in a camp in Bekaa Valley, Lebanon where she’s lived her entire life. Her mother and father, Dalal and Abdallah, fled for Lebanon after a rocket leveled their home in Aleppo, Syria. After seeking refuge at a neighbor’s house, which also became destroyed, they knew their only chance for life was to flee the country in November, 2011.
While in Syria, Abdallah was employed as a construction worker. Now he is unemployed, with no opportunity to provide for his family. Food is the only assistance they receive, $14/month per person.
Abdallah and Dalal would like for their daughter to begin her education. In fact, Israa says she hopes to one day become an engineer.
