Syrians Hoda (21) and Ahmad’s (16) stand beside their tent in Bekaa Valley, Lebanon. Their sister, Nidaa (25), tells their story:
“The main reason that lead us to leave our home in Tal Tamr is the starvation that happened when ISIS and the Kurds were fighting together. Around 200 people died from starvation and no one reported them to the media. Our situation was very hard. We came to Lebanon illegally and the Shawish paid for our trip. Not all of us came here, only 3 of my siblings and I were able to make it to Lebanon after accepting to come here and work in harvesting potatoes until we pay off our debt to the Shawish.”
Nidaa was a teacher. Ahmad would like to become a teacher, too. He was forced to leave school due to the war, but his dreams remain alive. For now the siblings are in need of the most basic necessities: supplies for their tent, a stove for the coming winter, food, ground cover and clothing.
