Doa (6) and her brother Yusuf (10) are part of a large family of Syrians once living a progressive and productive life in Aleppo, Syria when everything became disrupted by war.
Their father Ahmet owned and operated an HVAC factory but lost all of his assets to the war, including the destruction and pillaging of his factory equipment.
After a section of the family’s house was damaged in an aircraft bombardment, they realized they could not stay any longer.
Now Ahmet is a general laborer but suffered an injury that left him with a plate, screws and paralysis in his right arm. He said he would like to return to his business and recover from the psychological difficulty of adjusting to an unsustainable wage, unable to support his family.
Yusuf who loves music is the only one the family can afford to send to school.
