Cudi (8) lives with her mother, father and brother in Istanbul after fleeing Syria in 2013. The family was living in Damascus, stuck in the middle of the fighting between two sides. An electrician, their father went into hiding to avoid being drafted. For about a year he stayed in the house and didn’t go to work. Without a wage, the family fell into debt.
Eventually they fled to their relatives in Jordan when the border was still open to Syrians. They worked and survived in Jordan for three years, until the situation worsened for Syrians in Jordan, at which time they fled to Turkey. Now without work in Turkey, the family is struggling to keep a roof over their heads. Their immediate needs include food and milk for the children and help with living expenses.
