Bilal and Yazan

Bilal and Yazan pictured outside their tent in Lebanon, January, 2017.

The boys lived in Homs, Syria near a government security facility that was the site of military clashes. “A shell broke into our home when we were in it,” their mother Amina said. “We were terrified and ran away.”

The family (mother, father and five sons) first fled to Al-Salamiyah where they stayed for about five months but eventually fled to Lebanon, now taking refuge in Beqaa Valley.

The kids’ father later returned to Syria after learning his mother had died but has not been heard from since. “Now I do not know any news about him,” Amina said.

Amina has worked at a school in the past and is looking for a similar position to provide for her family now that they are alone and stuck in a tent. Their top needs include a heater, carpet and a washing machine.

I am a first generation Pakistani-American, born and raised in Texas. I am a wife, a mother of 2 kids, and a yoga instructor. My faith lies in kindness, compassion and humanity for all living beings. I aspire to make the a positive difference in the world however I am able to. I believe in education, and the empowerment of women and those who are most marginalized. Every month, I lead a women's yoga workshop to help women find mutual support and feel empowered from within. Every Wednesday, I also offer a 100% non-profit yoga class to benefit a cause or charity. Every month, I select a new cause or charity to be the beneficiary.
$500 Goal

During the month of February, I would like to lead a campaign to help Syrian refugees- especially since our new President has imposed a strict immigration ban specifically for them.

I would greatly appreciate your help in raising money for this Syrian mother and her 5 young kids- all under the age of 10. My goal is a minimum of $500.

Thank you for your assistance and generosity.

At least four quarterly emails will be sent to all contributors with status and progress reports related to activity on the campaign. This may include information about the successful transfer of funds to a hospital, a photo of the recipient after a successful surgery, etc.

Contributors will be provided with a local address to send food, clothes, school supplies and letters of support directly to the family’s door. This is a great way to build one-to-one relationships and potentially provide more needed support down the road. Plus, everything included in the $5 reward.

Attend a live video chat session with the host and refugee. Introduce yourself and time-permitting, spark up a conversation along with others involved in the campaign. A translator will be provided for English when needed. Plus, everything included in the $5 and $15 rewards.

Engage in a 30 minute one-to-one live video chat. An arabic translator will be provided for French or English. Plus, everything included in the $5, $15 and $25 rewards.

Everything in the $45 reward, four times! You can give them away to others or enjoy them all yourself. Each of the four rewards comes with everything offered in the $45 reward and below.

Thinking of traveling? Humanwire can help with recommendations for your itinerary. This could be a great opportunity to meet and connect more closely with the refugee family that will be benefitting from your contribution. For dinner, Humanwire will provide local transportation for everyone. Also, everything included in all prior rewards.
