The hands of one of Badriya’s children after rummaging through garbage all day.
The four kids fled with their mother from Syria in November of 2016 after witnessing their father’s death in an air strike. The family’s home was in central Aleppo and they lost everything in their journey to Turkey.
Since arriving a few months ago, Badriya’s children, between the ages of 5 and 10, have been out on the street daily to sort through garbage and then sell their finds. This family is barely making it; they receive no assistance from the UNHCR or other NGOs and have fallen through the cracks of one of the most tragic, ongoing wars of our time.
The family said they need just $200 a month to make rent, buy food and purchase clothing.
