Ayah, under a year old, lives with her parents in Turkey. Her parents met in Baghdad where they fell in love but faced many problems because of their different religious backgrounds. Hussein is Shia and his wife is Sunni which is not tolerated well in Iraq.
To establish a safe life for themselves, Hussein moved to Jordan in 2014 and then on to Iraq. The problems of being Shia in those countries continued, and they fled to Turkey in 2015.
The family of three is registered with UNHCR in Turkey and Hussein has desperately tried to secure work, but this is extremely difficult for an asylum seeker under their circumstances.
They’re now faced with the very desperate situation of being unable to provide at even a basic level for the child. When we asked about their top immediate needs, they listed baby milk, food and help with connecting for work.
